Three years — that’s how far the Cebu Bloggers Society has gone. And it will go even further.

With about 20 times the original size of the once small group, the premiere blogging community in Cebu has achieved fame throughout the 3 years of existence. When the group gained exposure from a local TV show, it was like a call for everyone to start blogging. The once lonely website of the group all of a sudden started getting more traffic than usual and applications for membership came piling in to the point where there were more applications than the members itself. With all the blessings coming the community’s way, the bloggers never forgot to give back. At least once a year, the bloggers would devise a plan — something that would share the blessings received by the group members.

In June 2009, CBSi reached out to the fire victims of Umapad, Mandaue, donating what little they can since majority of the members were still students at the time.

In September 2009, CBSi tied up with the Tsinelas Foundation and gathered its members to donate books, which were sold to help raise funds so that Tsinelas can sponsor children who want to finish their studies.

In April 2010, right when summer vacation started, the Tsinelas Foundation and CBSi tied up in another project which would help the Tsinelas scholars. This time, volunteers were gathered from CBSi in a call to teach Computer Literacy. To be stuck in a remote area with not even a cellphone signal is considered a nightmare to technology addicts, but the bloggers were able to put aside their addiction for a few days and successfully finished the program.

And right before 2010 finished, the group, despite the hectic schedules of those who had to work and those who were graduating, reached out once again this time to the fire victims of Duljo-Fatima. Traditionally, those who sing carols would be given something in exchange for offering the songs, but it was the other way around in this case. A Cebu-based band, Bethany, was kind enough to lend a hand with this project by playing a mini-concert to cheer up the victims.

It’s 2011, and the group is approaching its 3rd anniversary. The exact date of founding was on February 14, 2008, Valentine’s Day. This year, to give way to the day of hearts, the CBSi would be celebrating its third anniversary on February 19, 2011, a Saturday, between 3-6pm at PAGCOR, Casino Filipino Cebu in Parkmall. With this event, we hope to gather once again all the members of this blogging community and strengthen the bonds between each one of us.

To all the members of the Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc., kudos! We made it to three years! And we’re going to continue offering our services and building relationships with our fellowmen. More power to all of us!

2/06/11 - Fire in the Sky 2011: Waterfront's Chinese New Year Celebration

Last February 2, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino welcomes the Chinese New Year with the biggest celebration ever in Cebu! It was a night of Chinese culture, good food and spectacular fireworks. The festivities started at 6PM at the lobby, where an exhilarating lion dance took place. To ceremonially awaken the lions' spirits and symbolize their coming into the world, the lions' eyes were dotted by 4 guests of honor - the ever dashing and dynamic Mayor of Cebu City, Michael Rama, Republic of China's Consul General to Cebu, He Shijing, the stylishly elegant Elvira Luym, Cathay Pacific's young and energetic Manager Camilla Taylor and Waterfron't very own General Manager Marco Protacio.

After the lion dance, everyone proceeded to The Gourmet Walk, the hotel's restaurant row, which offers a wonderful complement to this graceful display of movement with a treat that is deserving of such a momentous occasion. UNO offered a beautiful spread of Chinese flavors at its Asian food station, alongside buffet favorites at PHP 850.00 per person. Chef Low Yuen Kong of Tin Gow will again work his magic as he prepares special set menus beginning at PHP 9,830.00+ for a group of 3-4 persons.

Finally, guests witnessed an 8-minute computer-synchronized fireworks display at the hotel's Lagoon Garden at 9:00PM - a tradition that has become a spectacle in the hotel.

Surrounded by good food, great company, beautiful dances and a dramatic display of fire in the sky, welcoming the Year of the Rabbit could not be a more enjoyable or festive experience at the Waterfront!

12/27/10 - Cebu Bloggers Society’s Caroling and Gift Giving Event for Christmas

On the first week of November this year, 213 families were struck by a fire accident in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City. They lost their homes and most of what they own. Until now, those families are struggling to bring back the lives they once had.

To extend some help, the Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. held a caroling and gift giving event last December 19, 2010 at 4pm. Fifty families who were greatly affected by the calamity (based on the survey done by a DSWD volunteer) were selected and gathered at the barangay’s basketball court, and the band Bethany brightened them with Christmas songs. Donations such as rice, canned goods, noodles, and Christmas goodies for the children were distributed to the selected families.

This is done in the hope of bringing the smiles back to the faces of the fire victims.

CBSi would like to thank the following sponsors for their donations and contributions to this event:
